This Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re proud to share the stories of two of our athletes, Gerrard and Adam, who have shown extraordinary resilience through training.
In 2017, Gerrard Igbinosun lost his wife to cancer. He suddenly found himself a single father of two young boys, facing unimaginable grief and the crushing weight of responsibility.

Balancing two jobs while raising his children alone, Gerrard turned to fitness as a way to survive. What started as a coping mechanism became a mission. Fitness became his therapy, his focus, and his fuel. Today, he is a powerful advocate for training the body, mind, and spirit — and a shining example of how physical strength can drive emotional resilience.
Adam Collard, owner of two successful gyms and a respected figure in the UK fitness industry, has also faced his own battles with depression.
“I’ve suffered with depression — and giving myself that 60 to 90 minutes of training each day gave me time to switch off completely.”

For Adam, training is essential. It provides structure, relieves stress, and helps him manage anxiety. Whether lifting weights or going for a run, that hour of focused effort gives him space to reset and rebuild.
“Running is massive for reducing anxiety. It’s not just about the body — it’s about building the mental framework to take control.”
